Preservation for Future Generations is a project operated with the assistance of the Judaica Department of Harvard University and Yigal Allon Center. It is a project that creates extensive cooperation between archives from all over the country and the Galilee in particular.
The purpose of the project is to ensure the preservation of the treasures archives in Israel and to open them and bring them closer to the general public on the Internet.
In order to ensure the preservation of archival materials, we digitize all types of formats available – negatives, slides, pictures, sound-video, video tapes etc. The digitization is accompanied by the registration and cataloging of all materials. This part of the project promises, so we believe, in preserving the material for future generations and strengthening its retrieval capacity.
In order to make the materials accessible to the general public, we are placing the entire database and digital files, open on a website of the ‘Museums Portal’, which will enable anyone connected to the Internet to access the files in a simple and close manner.
The professional staff of Yigal Allon Center performs the fieldwork and collects the raw materials. The project saves the materials and archives of the Zionist enterprise and makes them accessible to all.
