Allonim is a year-long residential leadership program that pairs Arab and Jewish Israeli high school graduates to develop a new generation of leadership for a shared society. In 2017, we opened the first pilot academy integrating Christian and Jewish Israeli youth in Bet Zera. The success brought us to open two additional mechinot in 2018 that joined Druze, Muslim-Bedouins and Circassians with Jewish youth. In 2019, the network is expected to include five academies overall.
Allonim’s leadership academies are composed of half Jewish students and half of other ethno-religious backgrounds. The program invests an equal amount of time exploring particular group identities and building a strong Israeli identity based in shared values such as democracy, pluralism, and religious freedom.
In addition to the academic curriculum, the students volunteer twice a week in the community. This allows them to simultaneously implement their newly acquired leadership skills and exemplify to the community their commitment to the values of a shared society.
