The Ancient Boat

And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, “Save us, Lord; we are perishing.” And he said to them, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith" Matthew 8:23-27

In 1986 two brothers from Kibbutz Ginosar discovered the remains of an ancient boat on the northwest shore of the Sea of the Galilee not far from the Yigal Allon Center. It was covered in clay and therefore preserved. Radiocarbon dating shows that the boat dates back to 100 BC to 100 AD. This is both the time and place in which Jesus operated and in which in the Jewish tradition, the Battle of Migdal, part of the Great Revolt of the Jews against the Romans took place.
The boat underwent a lengthy conservation process and in 2000 was transferred to a new exhibition hall at the Yigal Allon Center, where visitors can learn the story of its discovery, excavation and preservation.

The Museum

Permanent exhibitions

The Museum of “Man in the Galilee” was opened in 1986 in memory of Yigal Allon, it represents Allon’s ideas, thought and ways.. The Yigal Allon center is a memorial site, a place of hope, that focuses on the current Zionistic affairs, a place of prayer, creation and work between Arabs and Jews, a place for young peoples’ dreams and for friends and those who see themselves as partners in this path. The museum displays exhibitions that deal with a wide range of subjects that draw their inspiration from Allon’s unique personality and the rich history of the Galilee.

The art gallery

The Gallery presents a changing programme of exhibitions. Work is selected by the owners to produce shows that reflect a wide cross section of artists and styles.The Artists are local and most of them live in the Galilee . Exhibitions include painting, sculpture, ceramics and textiles. These may be one man shows or group shows, united by a theme which inspires the work.

The Yigal Allon center was constructed on the land of Kibbutz Genosar. As a founding and loyal member of the Kibbutz, it seemed obvious to the Kibbutz that a plot of land should be provided for the construction of a House that will commemorate Allon’s ways and values. The plot of land on which the center was established was previously part of the lake.

Gap year

The Yigal Allon Center strategically engages gap-year programs in order to impact Israel’s future. Gap year programs are a unique opportunity to raise young leaders committed to Yigal Allon’s values of active citizenship and humanistic Zionism, sharpen their critical thinking and methodically engage them on values.

Security Forces

The Security Forces Department offers educational programs to soldiers, junior commanders, non-commissioned officers, and senior commanders

Shared Society

The department provides the educational, cultural and civic foundation for peace and solidarity between Arabs and Jews and for the creation of a shared society.

Children and youth

The department introduces youth and families with the legacy and values of Yigal Allon, the story of the establishment of the state of Israel and the unique history of the Galilee.
